Amazon DSP Program Update: Enhancing Delivery Service Partnership

Amazon DSP Program Update

Amazon’s Delivery Service Partner (DSP) Program

Small family-owned businesses play a crucial role in the global economy, serving Amazon customers worldwide. Back in 2018, Amazon launched the Delivery Service Partner (DSP) program, designed to connect with aspiring entrepreneurs and empower them to establish and expand their businesses in collaboration with Amazon.

Drawing inspiration from Amazon’s longstanding partnership with small and medium-sized businesses, the DSP program aimed to replicate this model. It emphasized the importance of these businesses building their teams and driver networks within their communities, thereby creating both employment opportunities and exceptional local customer service.

While DSPs are responsible for hiring and managing their employees, Amazon supports them to ensure their success.

Since the program's inception, Amazon has invested more than $8 billion in cutting-edge technology, safety features, vehicles, rates, programs, and services for Amazon DSPs and their drivers.

Amazon's Support and Investment in Delivery Service Partners (DSPs)

Amazon collaborates closely with its Delivery Service Partners (DSPs), equipping them with tools to address industry challenges and enhance their businesses. Their technology optimizes delivery routes, considering factors like time constraints and addressing complexities while prioritizing safety and driver experience.

DSPs offer their employees rest breaks and meal breaks, with most drivers finishing their shifts earlier than planned.

DSPs typically pay drivers around $20.50 per hour in the United States, along with healthcare and other benefits, exceeding federal standards for affordability and coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

Amazon has invested over $800 million in rate increases and new programs for delivery drivers, bringing their total investment in DSPs to more than $8 billion over five years.

Amazon's Commitment to Driver Safety and Sustainability

Enhancing Delivery Service Partnership

With a strong focus on safety and sustainability, Amazon is dedicated to supporting its Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) and their drivers on the road.

In 2022, Amazon introduced over 10,000 electric delivery vehicles, manufactured by Rivian, aligning with their goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. These vehicles are equipped with advanced driver assistance systems, enhancing safety by offering features like blind spot warning, lane keep assist, and automatic emergency braking.

Additionally, Amazon-branded vehicles incorporate in-vehicle camera safety technology, which has significantly reduced accident rates among DSP drivers.

Injury rates for DSP-employed drivers are 10% lower than the industry average, and collision rates have dropped by nearly 40% with an 89% reduction in distracted driving and an 83% reduction in speeding incidents since the implementation of these technologies.

Amazon also prioritizes driver comfort, ensuring that all branded vehicles have functioning air conditioning and taking measures to protect drivers from extreme weather conditions. Routes are adjusted to allow drivers to take additional breaks for rest and hydration, and winter supplies such as ice scrapers, snow shovels, and warm-up kits are provided to DSPs and drivers.

Amazon remains committed to continually enhancing driver safety through innovative technology, process improvements, and ongoing training efforts.

Amazon's Community Outreach and Philanthropic Initiatives

Amazon goes beyond job creation by partnering with Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) to make a direct impact on the communities they operate in. DSPs support local nonprofits through charitable donations, including disaster relief efforts, contributions to healthcare institutions, and assistance to school districts.

Amazon takes pride in its role in helping these small businesses play an active role in the improvement of the communities they serve. A notable initiative from Amazon is the “Together, We Give” program, introduced last year, which provides DSPs in the United States and Canada with access to grants of up to $5,000. These grants empower

The “Together, We Give” program signifies a combined investment of $3 million across the DSP network, demonstrating Amazon’s commitment to fostering positive change at a grassroots level.

Wrapping Up: Enhancing Delivery Service Partnership

With the beginning of the new year, Amazon is still focused on helping these small business owners succeed and build strong teams. They are excited about the progress small businesses are making in communities across the U.S. and around the world. Amazon plans to keep working with them in the coming months and years to make sure they and their drivers are ready, safe, and well-supported every day.
